Chefs and cooks across P.E.I. will be taking part in Best of Sea, a restaurant promotion and culinary competition launched Wednesday by Agriculture and Fisheries Minister Alan McIsaac.

“Throughout the month of June, local restaurants are being challenged to create unique seafood dishes that showcase Prince Edward Island’s premium seafood products,” McIsaac said in a written release.

“Best of Sea is an opportunity for local restaurants to promote the talent of their chefs while providing customers with a high-quality meal featuring our world-renowned seafood.”

The Best of Sea competition will run from June 1 to 30 and feature 20 executive chefs and cooks in restaurants across P.E.I. They will create 40 unique, locally-created seafood dishes.

Their menus will include the use of a total of 13 different species of P.E.I. seafood. The chefs will also be making an effort to use other P.E.I. food and beverages with their Best of Sea dishes.

McIsaac encouraged Islanders and visitors to visit bestofsea.com.

P.E.I.’s Best of Sea month-long competition runs June 1 to 30.

After trying dishes from the promotion, Islanders and visitors can vote for the restaurant they feel should be determined the winner of Best of Sea. The votes will be considered by a professional judging panel that will be scoring on presentation, taste, and menu.

Awards will be presented for creative cooks division, chique chefs division and the Best of Sea 2016 Chique Chef Award. The winners will be announced July 4.
